Having read the committee minutes and programme of meetings, I am surprised that the members meetings have virtually disappeared.
Do the committee have a new policy ? which has been adopted without any consultation with the membership, or is our committee being influenced by another group operating in the Bay.
The members are the lifeblood of any group, without them there is no committee or requirement for a constitution. It is quite noticeable from the minutes that nobody except the officers has a specific role.
Hence no delegation, with no actions for completing tasks. Who is responsible for publicity for example ?
The membership is very low compared with the population of the DT6 postcode, many members do not actually live in the Bay, hence communication with members is very important, particularly as committee
minutes are usually only available 4-6 weeks after the meeting, therefore the only information for members is via the Bridport News, and Phillip Ringer's West Bay column.
The new coffee mornings in the church are a positive move, but being in the daytime are only available to retired and non working people. I was very interested in the Methodist Chapel Project for example but could not attend a daytime meeting.
This does limit the attendance, surely it is the young, and working people we need to attract, people who actually live/ work in the Bay, residents and business persons who will be affected by decisions taken by the forum.
As I have said membership MUST be encouraged and increased, which I believe can only be done by regular communication and consultation with the members prior to decisions being taken, as come the AGM maybe there will be no need for a committee.
Members will quickly drift away if they are ignored. The forum set up a Website etc, please use it for communication and publicity.
With a new constitution being produced I hope some of my comments will become irrelevant
